A Weekend in Palma de Mallorca

On Black Friday, RyanAir had deals too good to pass up on, so my friend Sammi and I booked cheap flights to the Spanish island of Palma de Mallorca and booked a hostel. I really knew nothing, admittedly, about Palma but what waited for us was one of the most fun weekends I had.

Me and my bff/travel buddy Sammi

We cashed in on the direct flights from our city, Jerez, to Palma, which almost never happens considering how small our airport (XRZ) is. But after a brisk hour and a half in the air, we had arrived and took the bus into town. There, we met two other Auxiliares (our program) from Madrid, Danielle and Haleigh, and we decided to exchange numbers to plan excursions together--four is better than two, and they seemed like well-researched Yelp guides and super fun people.

The city was full of harbors with sailboats and historic, tan-stoned buildings and churches, with lots of beaches and fun energy. We started the night at our youth hostel where we met a few people to go out with, (and I'm being specific for future me reading this only to be honest) an Argentine and a Swiss man who were super fun. After a few overpriced drinks, we stumbled upon a flamenco-dancing place where we finished our night with some bad dance moves, except for those who found their future husbands (clearly not me).

The next day, we went out into the center of the city to explore and found our breakfast before running into a literal festival for the Día de Baleares, which is a group Mallorca is a part of in the northern part of Spain. We found tons of booths with amazing food, a concert show that somehow turned into a Disney princess schtick, and even water-bottle filling stations (it's been a while, okay). We finished with some beach time and a beautiful rock pathway out to the middle of the ocean.

The next day we teamed up with our two Aux friends and hiked up to Bellver Castle, which had insane views over the city and a beautiful inside. We then took the bus to one of the renown beaches which happened to be empty (thank you February) and followed a rocky hillside path to two other beaches.

Then we stumbled upon some really cool rock formations which I was just stunned at, and we sat in a cove (and maybe peed there too) and watched the tide come in. AKA total DisneyChannel Movie-vibes.

The night ended with a German bratwurst and caught an early flight the next morning back to Jerez. Highly recommend Palma de Mallorca and also their nightlife...let that be all. Thanks for reading.
